Prioritising research and innovation

– a comparison of six small-medium-sized economies

The purpose of “Prioritising research and innovation” was to learn from the processes abroad for prioritising strategic research areas and to provide these areas with the appropriate resources.

The economies selected for closer analysis are the Netherlands, Finland and Switzerland (approx. the same size as Sweden), and two ambitious economies with a high growth rate (Taiwan and Korea).

Initial information was gathered using an e-mail questionnaire, which was followed up with more in-depth personal interviews. The project report was published at the Royal Technology Forum on the 22 October 2009. We want to learn from both the recipient side (politicians at the ministerial level and civil servants in the departments/ministries) and those executing the policies – i.e. equivalent to the Swedish Research Council/authorities, institutes etc. and see this preliminary study as the first step to creating ties with organisations and individuals abroad.

IVA will continue to pursue studies of this kind within the framework of other research projects (see the project header on the main page).
