With a growing population and increasing urbanisation, the importance of cities has never been higher. Cities are the places where growth happens, marketplaces emerge and development and innovation take place.
The development of attractive living environments is being delayed today by ageing, complicated and inefficient planning and decision processes that do not match current requirements. Another problem is that urban planning players and stakeholders work in a strikingly sectorised way.

Successful urban planning is distinguished by cooperation between many actors and by leadership across political and geographical lines. Such environments also allow innovation, technology development and new business models to emerge.
