Energy and Environment Council
The Energy and Environment Council’s mission is to monitor environmental issues with a focus on energy, and to ensure that these issues are kept in the spotlight constantly and on a broad front.
In cases where IVA considers it appropriate, the Energy and Environment Council may also address other issues relating to the environment. The objective is to:
- be a catalyst for ideas to address issues in which IVA should be involved and provide suggestions for suitable participants and sources of funding
- be a sounding board for ongoing projects
- work on exposure drafts within the energy and environmental area to which the Academy decides to respond
- act as a credible source of balanced information and as an educator;
- act as a catalyst for ideas for questions that IVA may turn into projects
- be a forum where members can engage in discourse at a high level, with quality and integrity, and free from trivial confines
- follow up on the Programme Declaration annually
The Council may also organise meetings and seminars in cooperation with the Academy’s various divisions, projects or external players.
Energy and Environment Council – Programme Declaration
The hope is that over the next two to three years the international community will agree on binding regulations and policy instruments that will lead to a reduction in emissions of climate gases so that the current temperature increase will be limited to 2°C. Sweden is developing its national energy and environmental policy in line with this comprehensive and long-term goal.
It has been proposed that the Energy and Environmental Council’s main mission over the next few years should be to analyse possible national and international “rules of the game” that will help to achieve the long-term goal in a cost-effective way. The Council should also analyse how and in which areas Swedish industry can develop “climate-smart” systems, products and services, and thereby generate new profitable business.
It has been proposed that the first activity relating to the climate issue where the Energy and Environmental Council can take the initiative is the preparation of a report on current energy and climate-related activities. This report will focus on Sweden with relevant international initiatives and should include both Government initiatives and activities within the research and business communities.
