The destination for the 2017 Royal Technology Mission (RTM) on 1–6 may is the USA. The RTM is arranged by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA). Joining H.M. The King are around thirty delegates from Swedish industry, research and the public sector. Key focus areas are fintech, life science and entrepreneurship.

The theme for the 2017 RTM is the speed at which technology development – particularly development driven by digitalisation – is impacting business, research and policy. Technical advances in artificial intelligence, robotics and biotechnology are changing markets and transforming companies. Meanwhile more products are becoming connected devices that people can develop themselves, and the mobile devices with screens we use today will become less important.

How industry, universities and the public sector develop their organisations to meet these trends will be one of the key issues for the delegation to explore. Special focus areas are fintech, life science and entrepreneurship.

The delegates will visit the following cities:

  • New York
  • Washington D.C.
  • Boston

Since 1984, on the King’s initiative, every one or two years IVA has organised the Royal Technology Mission, RTM. The RTM is for Swedish business leaders and high level representatives from the public sector and Swedish universities. The purpose of the RTMs is to generate collective knowledge within the delegation and to help forge new relationships to promote an exchange of ideas and business with the country visited. The King’s active participation makes it possible to visit companies and research institutes that rarely open their doors to foreign guests.
