A delegation from the Czech Republic visited IVA to discuss energy issues. Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka spoke about the importance of cooperation between Sweden and the Czech Republic.

About 20 people from the Czech business community met with representatives from the Swedish energy sector for a round table conversation. Participants from Sweden included companies like Vattenfall, Uniper, Fortum, Svenska kraftnät and Energigas Sverige. IVA representatives included Academy President Björn O. Nilsson, and Jan Nordling and Karin Byman from the Electricity Crossroads project.

One of the challenges in securing the Czech Republic’s energy supply is electric power transmission, because transmission capacity between Germany and the Czech Republic is a crowded sector. Electricity use is expected to increase.

Bohuslav Sobotka, the Czech Prime Minister, spoke about the need for engineers in the future. The Czech Republic is investing increasingly in practical vocational training. But the Prime Minister stressed the importance of laying the foundations early.

“One important issue to consider is the role of mathematics in schools.”
