Many of Sweden's larger companies have initiatives focused on new business development. How these units operate are different but typically share the same ambition.
A recent study shows that ideas developed within special business units (often referred to as “garage” or “X”) have a comparatively short survival time within the company.
Results from the study indicate that the problem lies in the cultural clash that arises when representatives from the new units meet representatives from the established organization.
Now that many companies have or are in the process of setting up special business units, this is a problem we need to address.
