The webinar is for anyone working as an entrepreneurship educator at the university level or who is interested in developing programmes focusing on entrepreneurship and engineering. The webinar is the first in a series of three that we are launching to provide inspiration, foster new ideas and share experiences of effective education models nationally and internationally.

During the webinar you will meet Sheryl Root, Program Director of III’s M.S. in Technology Ventures program and an Associate Professor of the Practice for the M.S. in Software Management program at CMU, where she has built a model to merge technology with entrepreneurship. Prior to joining academia, Sheryl had an extensive career in the software industry, including a 20-year tenure working for Hewlett-Packard (HP). For the last 13 years she has been running her own company specializing in corporate strategy and marketing.

Sheryl will share her experience of working on entrepreneurship in university engineering programmes and will answer questions, including the following:

  • Why is CMU educating engineering students in entrepreneurship?
  • What was the process for getting the faculty on board?
  • In a practical sense, how has entrepreneurship been integrated into the programmes?
  • How are students making connections with the private sector to gain practical experience?
  • Which results have been achieved and what are the most important success factors?

One of the companies working closely with CMU on entrepreneurship education is Volvo, and we will meet Jenny Elfsberg who was responsible for developing Volvo’s Innovation Lab in Silicon Valley. Jenny will talk about the value that industry brings to partnerships with universities like CMU. Today Jenny is Head of Innovation Management at VINNOVA.

During the webinar you will be able to ask Sheryl questions via our chat function. You can also submit your questions now using this form.
