Cultivation of mushroom for non-meat protein and renewable energy

A novel approach for a sustainable production of high value non-meat protein and biofuels by cultivation of edible mushroom such as shiitake on low-value wood residues. During the cultivation, the wood substrate is broken down and delignified by mushroom thus enabling a bioconversion of cellulose contained in the wood into ethanol.

Our patented innovations will largely increase energy-and-resource efficiency and reduce costs as well as to facilitate a robotisation of the integrated mushroom production and biofuel processing.
