2026 Hans Werthén Scholars
Eight young researchers and students resident in Sweden have been awarded this year's scholarships from the Hans Werthén Fund for study and research abroad. The scholarships are awarded with the aim of giving young academics the opportunity to develop in other countries and to return with new knowledge and experience that can benefit Sweden.
The scholarships were presented at a ceremony at IVA, where the recipients received their diplomas.
As both an engineer and a business leader, Hans Werthén was a results-oriented innovator. The scholarships that bear his name are intended to give young academics the opportunity to develop internationally and subsequently return with new knowledge and experience that can benefit industry, business or academia in Sweden.
Since the Hans Werthén Fund was established in 1990, a total of 529 scholarships have now been awarded, with a combined value of approximately SEK 66 million.
This year's scholarships amount to a total of SEK 2,227,000 (SEK 100,000–400,000 per recipient) and cover up to one year of scientific work at postdoctoral or doctoral level, or MBA or LL.M. studies in a high-calibre international environment.

Amanda Barck
Admitted to the LL.M. programme at King's College London, United Kingdom.
"During my time there, I intend to develop a concrete capacity for implementation. I want to deepen my understanding of international policy by analysing how different jurisdictions approach the governance of artificial intelligence. My goal is to develop practical governance expertise, specifically in risk management and in approaches suited to technology-intensive environments."
Emma Bergqvist
Admitted to the MBA programme at NYU Stern School of Business, USA.
"My ambition is to work at the intersection of technology, business development and international industry. By combining technical understanding, a business perspective and international experience, I want to help strengthen Sweden's technological and industrial development in an increasingly global and technology-driven economy."
Edvard Carlsson
Admitted to the MBA programme at London Business School, United Kingdom.
"My ambition is to help build competitive industrial enterprises in Europe. With this education, I want to complement my technical background with deeper expertise in leadership, governance and strategic decision-making in complex organisations."
Ida Hugander
Admitted to the MSc in Finance at the London School of Economics, United Kingdom.
"My goal for this period abroad is to acquire the tools needed to price, structure and finance the large-scale industrial projects that will secure Sweden's leading position in the green transition."
Mattias Ingelström
Invited as a doctoral researcher to the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry, Japan.
"My research addresses the challenge of electrifying heavy goods transport by providing a methodological framework to guide the optimal placement and sizing of fast-charging networks. The project in Japan focuses on examining one of the most difficult problems in electrification: how to enable the charging of heavy vehicles without overloading the electricity grid."
Gabriel Malmer
Invited as a doctoral researcher to KU Leuven, Belgium.
"In my research, I study the control and operation of modern power systems with a rapidly increasing share of power-electronic converters. Research in this field is central to the energy transition, as it enables greater integration of renewable electricity generation, the electrification of industry and transport, and the efficient use of the grid. During my stay, I will work on the optimisation and design of effective system-protection solutions."
Ganesh Shinde
Invited as a postdoctoral researcher to the University of Bristol, United Kingdom.
"Professor Aggarwal at the University of Bristol is unquestionably the world's leading pioneer in modern organoboron chemistry, and this fellowship will provide transformative training that expands my scientific horizons. Through my established AstraZeneca collaboration, I will directly translate the methodologies learned in Bristol into industrial applications."
Elin Stolpe
Admitted to the MSc in Law and Finance at the London School of Economics, United Kingdom.
"I want to deepen my expertise in international business law, corporate governance, international law and sustainability-related regulation. My long-term goal is to work on transactions and projects where the law plays a central role in enabling sustainable, long-term business relationships and investments across national borders."
