The Hans Werthén Foundation places great importance on receiving a general description of the most important experience gained from periods abroad funded by the scholarship — both in scientific/ scholarly terms and socially. The reports are used by the committee in its work, but also as information for future scholarship holders.

IVA's List for Research Impact 2026

IVA’s List for Research Impact works to strengthen Sweden’s ability to translate academic research in the technical sciences into innovation, societal benefit and competitiveness. The research projects highlighted should have significant potential to contribute to solutions for key societal challenges through commercialisation, new businesses and practical application. The selection is made by a committee comprising representatives from academia, industry and the public sector.

Honorary Fellows

The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) can appoint someone who has, through their work or in other ways, significantly promoted the academy’s objectives as an honorary fellow. The appointment is proposed by IVA's Presidium.

We are now seeking candidates for IVA's List for Research Impact. The IVA List highlights current research projects within the field of engineering sciences, conducted at Swedish universities and research institutes, that show a clear ambition to be commercialised. The research should be ready to generate impact within the foreseeable future. The application period is open from 4 February to 20 February 2026.

The Academy’s Divisions

IVA’s approximately 1,000 Swedish Fellows are divided into 12 Divisions. The Divisions monitor and work on current issues in their specific fields, not least by organising seminars and other activities.

IVA's President: A Shared Vision for the Future

Although he has often been credited as saying: “Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come,” Victor Hugo was probably not the source of this exact phrase. In his seminal 1877 book, Histoire d’un crime, he says, however: “One can resist the invasion of armies, but one cannot resist the invasion of ideas.” The meaning of both is roughly the same. Ideas can spark movements that have the power to shape the future.

New report: Semiconductors

Sweden has strong research capabilities and is a leader in certain semiconductor niches, but it needs to become better at turning innovations into large-scale production. This is the conclusion of a new report from the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, which presents concrete proposals to strengthen Sweden’s competitiveness in one of the most strategically important technology fields of our time.
