The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) is an independent academy with a mission “...to promote engineering and economic sciences and the advancement of business and industry for the benefit of society.” We bring together leading engineers, economists, researchers, entrepreneurs and leaders in business and the public sector, who contribute generously to IVA’s operations through their intellectual capital and their engagement.

A meeting place for Sweden's future

IVA believes in humanity’s capacity to contribute positively to society through the engineering and economic sciences. We run a number of projects and programmes, produce reports, knowledge bases and policy proposals, and organise open seminars and meetings nationwide. We also recognise and encourage the efforts of others by awarding distinctions and grants.

Around 40% of adults have periodontitis, but existing chairside options only confirm damage already done. We are building the first chairside platform that uses a multi-sensor array and AI to read saliva, designed to flag early risk in minutes.

Periodontitis imposes an estimated €159B annual economic burden on Europe; a €40 chairside test could enable earlier detection before progression to costly therapy or implants. We are at TRL 3-4, moving from lab proof-of-concept to an early chairside prototype, with clinical saliva sampling underway to evaluate performance. The platform fits dental workflows as a billable, same-visit service, with potential to expand the same hardware to other saliva-based health indications. The founding team spans biomedical laboratory science, analytical chemistry, AI and IoT, clinical periodontology, and dedicated commercial and design leadership. Incorporation is pending. We seek industry partners, clinical sites, and early investors.
