The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) is an independent academy with a mission “...to promote engineering and economic sciences and the advancement of business and industry for the benefit of society.” We bring together leading engineers, economists, researchers, entrepreneurs and leaders in business and the public sector, who contribute generously to IVA’s operations through their intellectual capital and their engagement.

A meeting place for Sweden's future

IVA believes in humanity’s capacity to contribute positively to society through the engineering and economic sciences. We run a number of projects and programmes, produce reports, knowledge bases and policy proposals, and organise open seminars and meetings nationwide. We also recognise and encourage the efforts of others by awarding distinctions and grants.

Imaging blood pressure changes throughout the body

Many cardiovascular diseases are preceded by local blood pressure changes, but assessing these is hard. Our innovation combines MRI with AI-analysis to measure pressure variations across the whole body – a radical shift in cardiovascular care.

Cardiovascular diseases remain a leading cause of death worldwide. Accurate assessment of regional blood pressure variations is here essential for accurate diagnosis. However, current clinical methods are primarily based on invasive techniques, leaving many conditions where pressure information is virtually inaccessible. Our innovation provides a non-invasive solution combining advanced MRI, AI-driven image processing, and physics-based analysis to measure pressure changes throughout the body. Built on existing MRI infrastructure, the technology has strong potential to improve patient care, reduce invasive procedures, and increase healthcare efficiency, with clinical implementation now pursued together with healthcare and industry partners.
