Resource-efficient fracture care in crisis and war

Early stabilization of severe fractures is crucial to reduce pain, blood loss and healthcare burden. Our technology minimizes clinical demands in emergency care, conflict and disaster. It also enables robot-assisted surgery and telemedicine.

Millions suffer severe fractures of the thigh and lower leg every year. Today, the first acute treatment requires a team of physicians and healthcare staff to align bone ends and stabilize the fracture. Our solution is a mechanical fixation system that requires only one healthcare provider to solve this. Designed for broad acute use, it can scale from initial stabilization to definitive treatment, with robot-assisted adjustments and telemedical support from a remote orthopaedic specialist. The interdisciplinary team combines orthopaedic and technical expertise from KI and KTH. The technology has been verified in prototype testing and a patent is pending. It has potential for international use both in advanced and resource-limited care.
