IVA’s Gold Medal 2026: Carolina Dybeck Happe
As Chief Financial Officer of some of the world's largest companies, Carolina Dybeck Happe has driven restructurings that have fundamentally changed those companies. She is awarded IVA's Gold Medal 2026 for bold, long-term leadership that combines financial discipline with strategic renewal.
Carolina Dybeck Happe was born in 1972 in Stockholm and holds a degree in business administration from Uppsala University. She began her career at EF Education First, holding roles in Russia, Switzerland, and the United States, which provided her with early international experience. From 2002 to 2010 she was Regional CFO of Assa Abloy in Berlin and London. She has since held several key CFO positions: at Trelleborg, where she strengthened the group's financial structure, and at Assa Abloy, where she contributed to the company's transformation into a global leader in digital solutions. She then became CFO of the Danish transport and logistics group A.P. Møller-Maersk.
In the early 2020s, Dybeck Happe was Group CFO of General Electric, the first non-American to hold the post in the company's history. She led the group's financial reset, carried through a substantial reduction in debt, and was a key figure in the operational restructuring that paved the way for the separation into three listed companies: GE Aerospace, GE HealthCare, and GE Vernova. The company's market capitalisation has growth over 700%, and the restructuring is regarded as one of the largest in the history of American industry.
Since September 2024, Dybeck Happe has been an Executive Vice President of Microsoft and the company's Chief Operating Officer. In this role she is responsible for operational efficiency, security and improved business processes, and developing the physical foundations of Microsoft's AI transformation.
Alongside her executive roles, Dybeck Happe has held several significant board appointments, including at E.ON, Schneider Electric and Ericsson.
As the most senior financial officer in international groups, she has led extensive debt reductions, structural changes and company separations that have created stability, clarity and considerable value for owners and for society alike. Her work has not only strengthened the competitiveness of the companies concerned but has also laid the foundations for investment in product innovation, sustainable design and delivery, and future growth.
Dybeck Happe's leadership is characterised by analytical rigour, integrity and a clear focus on creating value over time. She also stands out for an inclusive leadership style and an ability to navigate between different cultures and interests, which makes her a role model for modern corporate leadership.
Taken together, Carolina Dybeck Happe has — through bold and modern leadership in several complex global industrial, manufacturing, and technology companies — combined financial discipline with strategic renewal, thereby creating long-term value. She is known for building a performance-based corporate culture founded on collaboration, integrity, accountability, and transparency.
Carolina Dybeck Happe has been an International Fellow of IVA since 2024.

"The common thread through my working life is that I have taken on major changes. I started out in a traditional industry surrounded by factories, locks and steel doors. At General Electric I helped turn around and break up one of America's most iconic companies. And today I work at Microsoft with AI and the infrastructure that the technology requires."
