23°N - The Tropic of Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer type globally and the incidence rate is increasing. Women in low-income countries have a noticeably lower chance for survival compared to women in high-income countries. WHO has acknowledged the need for a timely diagnosis to decrease the mortality of breast cancer.

IVAs 100-lista 2023

In the project 23°N, we have combined the latest point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) technology with an AI algorithm. Our prototype can identify breast cancer in POCUS images with an AUC value of 95%.

The aim of our project is to develop a cost effective and accessible breast diagnostic method, to enable a timely diagnosis of breast cancer in low-resource or remote settings. The goal is to reduce the mortality of breast cancer with a global perspective.

Our biggest competitor, Koios Medical, has created an AI decision support for conventional breast ultrasound imaging. However, it has not been developed for POCUS images. There are currently no competitors with the same solution as 23°N.

IVA’s 100 List 2023 - Technology in the service of humanity

IVA’s 100 List 2023 highlights a diverse range of research projects from Swedish universities, under the theme Technology in the Service of Humanity within in climate change, energy supply, welfare technology, cybersecurity and crisis preparedness. The projects have been selected based on their great potential to create value through commercialization, business and method development, or societal impact. All participating researchers are interested in increased contacts with the business sector for the application and further development of their projects.

Named contact persons for each research project on the 100 List are responsible for the accuracy of the information presented.
