Battery Circularity

As more people use electric vehicles (EV), more batteries are needed, which can lead to more electronic waste. Battery circularity is a way to reuse and recycle batteries to reduce waste.

IVAs 100-lista 2023

Finding the right business strategy can be challenging due to the wide variety of EV models, each requiring different battery chemistries and sizes. In our research, we have found key barriers and enablers, suitable business models, ecosystem strategies, and design guidelines for implementing battery circularity. We are also developing smart battery circularity, which uses digital technologies to collect and analyze data about batteries in real time.

This will help us make better decisions about how to reuse and recycle batteries. Our research will benefit the EV battery value chain actors by providing innovative business models, digital services, and performance monitoring. Given the electricity shortages and the need to use renewable sources, battery circularity is an attractive solution.

IVA’s 100 List 2023 - Technology in the service of humanity

IVA’s 100 List 2023 highlights a diverse range of research projects from Swedish universities, under the theme Technology in the Service of Humanity within in climate change, energy supply, welfare technology, cybersecurity and crisis preparedness. The projects have been selected based on their great potential to create value through commercialization, business and method development, or societal impact. All participating researchers are interested in increased contacts with the business sector for the application and further development of their projects.

Named contact persons for each research project on the 100 List are responsible for the accuracy of the information presented.
