CarbonNextGen is developing a new approach in carbon neutral wastewater treatment plants. The core technology is an improved fermentation process that treats the both wastewater and sludge and creates value (approx 600 BSEK/year for Sweden) by producing energy, commercially valuable fatty acids and bioplastics. Our bio-based technology could be taken to the market as a combination of products and services that can be integrated into existing wastewater treatment plants.

IVA’s 100 List 2020 highlights a diverse range of research projects from Swedish universities, under the theme Sustainable competitiveness. The projects have been selected based on their great potential to create value through commercialization, business and method development, or societal impact. All participating researchers are interested in increased contacts with the business sector for the application and further development of their projects.
