  The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) is an independent academy with a mission “...to promote engineering and economic sciences and the advancement of business and industry for the benefit of society.” We bring together leading engineers, economists, researchers, entrepreneurs and leaders in business and the public sector, who contribute generously to IVA’s operations through their intellectual capital and their engagement.

We run a number of projects and programmes, produce reports, knowledge bases and policy proposals, and organise open seminars and meetings nationwide. With backgrounds in business, philosophy, psychology and computer science our team is building a dynamic, highly scalable XAI (explainable AI), capable of objectively reading, understanding and conveying communicated emotions. We develop AI that understands multimodal human emotions and improves communication by developing artificial empathy. Our deep learning approach combines aspects of verbal and non-verbal communication - enabling a deeper understanding of dynamic human communication.

IVA’s 100 List 2022 highlights a diverse range of research projects from Swedish universities, under the theme Technology in the Service of Humanity. The projects have been selected based on their great potential to create value through commercialization, business and method development, or societal impact. All participating researchers are interested in increased contacts with the business sector for the application and further development of their projects.
