Hydrogels are an important class of biomaterial with superior water absorbing properties, flexibility, and strength. They are used in a range of products, but are produced using either fossil materials or biopolymers subjected to wasteful and polluting chemical modifications. Our innovative technology platform uses two natural molecules, a protein and a sugar, to create fossil-free and stable hydrogels with no synthetic components.

The materials breakthrough from GlycoLink AB offers a gold standard hydrogel from sustainable resources, made using low-cost and environmentally friendly processes. The gel is highly tunable and can be used in cosmetics, personal care, and pharmaceutical products.

IVA’s 100 List 2022 highlights a diverse range of research projects from Swedish universities, under the theme Technology in the Service of Humanity. The projects have been selected based on their great potential to create value through commercialization, business and method development, or societal impact. All participating researchers are interested in increased contacts with the business sector for the application and further development of their projects.
