  The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) is an independent academy with a mission “...to promote engineering and economic sciences and the advancement of business and industry for the benefit of society.” We bring together leading engineers, economists, researchers, entrepreneurs and leaders in business and the public sector, who contribute generously to IVA’s operations through their intellectual capital and their engagement.

We run a number of projects and programmes, produce reports, knowledge bases and policy proposals, and organise open seminars and meetings nationwide. Small hybrid-electric commuter aircraft are about to change regional air travel. Building on the latest developments in this sector, our EU-funded HECARRUS project analyses advanced technologies for propulsion and power generation.

The focus is on coupling the most efficient turbine-driven jet engines with electric power generators and motors, as well as state-of-the-art batteries. The aim is to design a hybrid-electric aircraft that generates up to 1 MW power and comprises several propulsive units.

IVA’s 100 List 2022 highlights a diverse range of research projects from Swedish universities, under the theme Technology in the Service of Humanity. The projects have been selected based on their great potential to create value through commercialization, business and method development, or societal impact. All participating researchers are interested in increased contacts with the business sector for the application and further development of their projects.
