Fastläggning av fosfor i sediment.

IVAs 100-lista 2020

Our mission is to restore eutrophicated water bodies by using our patented method with activated limestone to bind phosphorus (P) in the bottom sediment. The material is inexpensive, and it is produced from a byproduct from lime quarries. It is spread above or at the water surface and settles to the bottom to react in the sediment. The uptake capacity of the activated limestone for phosphorus is very high and can reach 20 g P/kgsorbent and above.

The method has been tested in a bay of the Baltic Sea using activated limestone produced in Gotland, and the preliminary results show a very promising decrease of phosphorus in the bottom water. We have recently also started a project with the aim to reduce the leakage of phosphorus from sediment below fish farms.

We are looking for owners of eutrophicated water bodies that are interested in using our method, such as County Administrative Boards, private owners, and fish farmers.
