Local and distributed energy production from non-fossil sources is necessary for a future resilient society. By using transparent solar cells more surfaces of buildings could be used for energy production, both from esthetic and practical reasons. Problems with alternative transparent solar cell technologies and why they are not commercial available are limitations like they have limited transparency and color distortion, contain toxic and rare materials, or have very low efficiency.

By using nanowires made of semiconductor materials and apply them in a transparent film we have overcome those problems and have a technology that can be scaled up to mass production of solar cell windows.

IVA’s 100 List 2021 highlights a diverse range of research projects from Swedish universities, under the theme Sustainable crisis preparedness. The projects have been selected based on their great potential to create value through commercialization, business and method development, or societal impact. All participating researchers are interested in increased contacts with the business sector for the application and further development of their projects.
