Swedish Futures
A vision for Sweden as a country of technology and innovation by 2035.

We need better overview, joint mobilisation, and a map that shows where Sweden stands and where we aim to be.
Professor Sylvia Schwaag Serger, President IVA
The geopolitical situation is very concerning, the effects of the climate crisis are becoming increasingly apparent, and global competition is fierce – not least in terms of technological development. Sweden is an open economy that is dependent on the outside world in every sense. The global situation means Sweden needs a well-established, comprehensive and shared vision for the future.
About Swedish Futures
IVA is launching “Swedish Futures” to develop an overarching vision for Sweden as a world-leading country of technology and innovation by 2035, with a focus on competitiveness, sustainability, and security.
The purpose is to answer the questions:
- Where are we today?
- Where are we headed?
- Where do we want to go?
The ambition is to establish a fast-paced and cohesive project that, in addition to IVA's 1,300 fellows, also includes broad engagement from various sectors of society: politics, business, academia, labor market partners, representatives from public sector and the non-profit sector.
Swedish Futures is being implemented with financial support from a broad coalition of stakeholders.

Three Core Pillars of the project
Visualization
IVA is developing a data infrastructure that enables the visualization of Sweden's strengths and weaknesses in terms of technology and innovation based on available statistical sources.
In addition to visualizations based on quantitative data, IVA will also tap its fellows and business contacts to make qualified predictions about the future through the use of artificial intelligence.

Katrin Danerlöv, Chief Data ScientistIn-depth studies
IVA is initiating some 20 in-depth analyses of various themes, which may highlight new technologies, energy supply issues, dual-use opportunities, entrepreneurship, Sweden's public finances, infrastructure issues, and other important issues.
These will be identified partly by IVA members and partly in other forums linked to the project. Close links to academic research will be crucial for the selection and implementation of all thematic studies.
