Hans Werthén Foundation

Each year, the Hans Werthén Foundation awards a number of scholarships for one year of scientific work at the postdoctoral or doctoral level, MBA or LL.M. studies in a qualified international environment.

About the scholarship

Hans Werthén was a result-oriented innovator, both as an engineer and business leader. The scholarships bearing his name aim to allow young academics to develop in other countries and return with new knowledge and experience that can be used in industry, business, or academia in Sweden.

The scholarship is intended to help finance one year of scientific work at the postdoctoral or doctoral level, MBA or LL.M. studies in a qualified international environment.

The scholarship is worth SEK 100 000–400 000 and in general, applicants are around 25–35 years old. They should have an academic degree, at least at master's level but preferably a PhD, ideally in the fields of technology/science or economics/law.

A board appoints the scholarship holders. The members of the board are Marcus Wallenberg (Chair), Marianne Feledy Werthén, Sara Mazur, Hans Stråberg, Carl-Henric Svanberg, Astrid Söderbergh Widding, Victoria Van Camp and alternate Magnus Breidne (Head Secretary).

Next application period: 7 January–7 March 2025.

Decisions on the 2024 scholarships are made at the foundation’s board meeting in May and applicants are then notified in writing.

Please e-mail any questions about the scholarship directly to hw@iva.se
